Rather than allowing these circumstances to limit him, he chose to see them as a call to rise higher. As a Wings to Fly scholar, he embraced education not merely as a means to personal success, but as a tool for lasting change.A defining moment in his journey came during a Wings to Fly congress, where he encountered an interview with Josiah Muriuki, the Director of Beta Mentor Africa.The story resonated deeply with me, Melfin recalls. I saw reflections of my own struggles and aspirations, and I felt challenged to rise, to grow, and to rewrite my narrative.After completing high school, Melfin worked tirelessly, determined not to let his background dictate his future. At a critical point, the Twende Majuu Tukasome Program under Beta Mentor Africa became a pillar of support. Through personalised mentorship and exposure, his vision sharpened and his ambitions expanded.Being paired with a mentor who reviewed my essays and guided my applications was a turning point, he says. It wasnt just academic help it was a mindset transformation.Through this journey, Melfin discovered a community of focused, purpose-driven young Africans boldly shaping their futures. The exposure affirmed his belief that age is not a limitation, and that with the right guidance, young people can achieve extraordinary things.This transformation culminated in a major milestone: securing a fully funded Mastercard Foundation Scholarship to pursue his studies at the University of Pretoria. Yet, for Melfin, this achievement is not the destination.I dont see this as success itself, he reflects.
